Over the course of 2 years, EYDR – Youth Participation in Digital Democracy: From Digital Skills to Digital Rights of Youth with Fewer Opportunities has worked to engage, connect, and empower young people in the digital world by developing their digital skills and raising awareness about their digital rights with an approach that balances protection and participation. By combining capacity building, advocacy, and awareness-raising, the project has helped youth with fewer opportunities move from being passive digital users to becoming advocates for their rights and contributors to democratic life.
Throughout the implementation of this project, SCiDEV in collaboration with 7 partners from the Western Balkans and European Union has contributed in the existing literature on online youth participation through the Mappings of Youth Participation in Digital Democracy in Albania and in Montenegro and has engaged more than 30 young people including those with fewer opportunities in all stages of the project from the very beginning with the design thinking of the Youth Digital Democracy Accelerator Programme until lately with co-creation of podcasts, policy briefs and awareness raising campaigns.
The Final Conference “Towards Engaged, Connected & Empowered Youth in the Digital Democracy”, that will take place on September 25th, 10:00-14:00 in the premises of Europe House in Tirana will mark the conclusion of this project. The event will bring together young people from Albania, civil society representatives from the Western Balkans and European Union, and public institutions to reflect on the project’s results and discuss how youth perspectives can shape inclusive digital policies. The event will highlight the achievements of the EYDR project while giving center stage to the young participants, who will present the findings of their policy papers developed on themes such as media literacy, AI and fact-checking, cyberbullying, and youth participation. Their findings will open space for dialogue between institutions and the very young people most affected by these issues.
SCiDEV invites all interested parties to join this celebration of our project’s achievement, as well as our efforts to establish a platform that amplifies youth voices, share knowledge, and inspire future collaborations between young people, civil society, and policymakers in the field of digital democracy.
