Mapping of Youth Participation in Digital Democracy: Case of Albania and Montenegro

In the Western Balkans, significant progress has been made in shaping youth policy frameworks through the adoption of various laws, strategies, and action plans. Despite these advancements effectively empowering young people and involving them in decision-making processes remains a challenge. This challenge is further compounded by the rapid digitalization of society, which presents both opportunities and obstacles for youth participation in digital democracy.

Throughout May 2024-September 2024 EYDR cohort has intensively worked to prepare the first Mappings of Youth Participation in Digital Democracy in Albania and in Montenegro. These reports aim to explore the modalities of digital activism in these countries and to explore challenges and patterns among youth engagement in the digital sphere. The Mappings include primary and secondary data collection, including interviews, focus groups, surveys, and document analysis focused on digital skills, literacies, digital rights and youth participation.

On October 24th , SCiDEV and UZOR will  present the key findings from both the reports in a blended public event organized by SCiDEV in Tirana, which also seeks to engage stakeholders from civil society, public institutions and youth in a meaningful policy dialogue about participation and digital democracy.
